ABOUT MILICA

Serbian born soprano Milica Ilic emigrated as a child to the southern hemisphere and began her vocal studies in New Zealand. She completed her studies at the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane, Australia. 

 

After winning many competitions, including the Australian National Eisteddfod and the Dame Joan Sutherland Competition, she went on to become a finalist in the prestigious Sydney based McDonalds Aria Competition and the winner of the Concorso Internzionale de Opera De Tenerife and Salice D'Oro International Vocal Competition, Salice D'Oro Italy.

 

Her performances include the roles of Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Violetta in La Traviata, Clothilde in Norma, Frasquita in Carmen, Susanna and Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, Cunegonde in Candide, Despina in Cosi fan Tutte, Amore in Orfeo ed Euridice, Sophie in Werther, Nanetta in Falstaff, Oscar in Ballo in Maschera, Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, later becoming a noted Die Königin der Nacht in the Opera Australia production, designed by Julie Taymor and Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto. Current roles prepared include Pamina, Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) Gilda, Musetta, Massenet’s Manon and Thaïs.

 

Milica Ilic has sung with Opera Australia, Xian Symphony Orchestra, Teatro Communale Luciano Pavarotti Modena, Opera Queensland, Teatro Sociale Trento, West Australian Opera, Aalto Theatre, Essen, Teatro Verdi Trieste, Brisbane Festival, Opera de Tenerife, Macau Music Festival, Gala Concerts in Milan for Amici Della Scala, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Sarzana Music Festival, Adelaide Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Beijing Music Festival, and worked with conductors such as Evelino Pido, Yu Long, Christian Badea, Ivan Aadland, Dane Lam, Marco Zuccarini, Giovanni Di Stefano, Nicholas Braithwaite, Johannes Fritzsch, Muhai Tang, Nicholas Carter, Aldo Sisillo, Luca Schieppati, Jacques Lacombe and Daniel Carter.

 

As concert soloist with major orchestras Milica Ilic has been fêted for her performances in Orff’s Carmina Burana, Faure’s Requiem, Rossini’s Le Petite Messe, Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mahler’s Symphony No.4, and sung many extracts and arias from operas for gala events, including the roles of Doretta, Lauretta, Liu, Musetta, Lakme, Ophelia, Zaide, Constanze, Titania, Leila, Manon, etc. 

 

In recent seasons Milica has given concert tours in Italy and Switzerland and starred in a new production of La Traviata for Opera De Tenerife and performances as Cunegonda in Bernstein’s Candide for audiences in Xian, China.

 

Milica Ilic has recorded for ABC Classics and Classical Film & Sound. A recital programme of Russian songs is planned for future release.
